North Junior B Hurling Championship – Silvermines 1-17 Lorrha 2-15

Well done to our Junior B hurlers who advanced to the North quarter-finals in dramatic fashion in Dolla on Sunday evening.

After defeat to Moneygall and a narrow win over Templederry, we knew that we needed a win against Silvermines in our final group game to qualify for the knockout stages.

Silvermines got off to a fast start with the first 1-2 of the game, but Lorrha slowly grew into the game despite playing against the wind and went in at the break 1-7 apiece with a well-taken goal from Philip Hogan.

It was a hard fought and very even second half with the lead changing hands on many occasions. A second Philip Hogan goal in the last five minutes gave us the lead once again but Silvermines managed to draw level in injury time.

Knowing that a win was required to qualify from the group, Barry Moran collected a long puck out and drove it between the posts to secure a one-point victory, and a home quarter-final against Toomevara next weekend. Fixture details will be confirmed later tonight.

Well done to the management team of Ken Hogan, Conor Sullivan and Willie Fogarty, as well as the panel of players.
