The late Liam King: Sympathies to the King family, Ballymacegan, on the passing of Liam King, one of our most decorated and inspirational players.

Famously, Liam was corner back on Tipperary’s Munster and All-Ireland winning team in 1971, played for the county from 1968 to 1975. He also made two appearances with Munster in the Railway Cup.

He was right half back on Lorrha’s North Senior Hurling Championship winning team in 1966, also winning a county junior football medal in 1971 and was a consummate club-man, once serving as player-manager.

He was the ‘Guardian’ Player of the Year in 1972 because of his ‘absolute dedication to his club, for the infusion of spirit into his team-mates for his fearless hurling at all times.’

In his formative years, he enjoyed a successful juvenile career and two North U15 medals in 1956 & 1957, achieving county success in the latter of those years.

After his playing career, he served as club chairperson, secretary and treasurer in separate stints. He was also a selector with Tipperary in 1985.

His last official function was in 2024 when he presented us with our North Tipperary Club of the Year Award. Liam will be greatly missed by all in Lorrha.

Liam King is survived by his wife Kathleen (nee Tully), son Ronan, daughters Fiona, Amanda, Sheena & Paula, granddaughter Indie, sons-in-law Jeremy & John, his brother Seamus (and Margaret) his sister Maura; sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nephews and nieces.
